This series of paintings is inspired by aerial views, satellite imagery, & the cosmos.
The abstract, textural canvases, depict imagined spaces inspired by real life imagery. Metallic paint causes the paintings to appear differently depending on how the light hits. While I tend to favour a limited palette, the colours of these paintings are of higher contrast within a limited palette than is typical for me.
Generally, the influence of my next series in mind tends to creep in to my work. Some of the later paintings from the Ethereal Series show influences of this. While I embarked on this series, believing that I was exaggerating colours, I came to find these vibrant hues in the landscape, due to phenomena such as mineral deposits, or algae bloom.
With an environmental focus, my thoughts have been to ask how aerial views change over time, particularly coastlines. I hope to revisit this series in future, having examined imagery & data that may show the unfortunate ravages of time.
